The second performance of the night came from Jason Castro. He performed his hit performance “Hallelujah.”

After the top 6 girls performed the song “She Works Hard for the Money” Donna Summer took the stage to sing her new single, “Stamp Your Feet.” Following that the girls joined Summer to sing her hit song “Last Dance.”

Carly Smithson and Michael Johns took the stage together tonight to sing the song “The Letter.”

The next guest performance of the night was Bryan Adams. He took the stage after the top 6 guys sang the songs “Summer of 69” and “Heaven.” Nice!

Brooke White took the stage tonight with Graham Nash to sing the song “Teach YourChildren Well.” Perfect song for her.
Jonas Brothers took the stage next as the teen girls in the crowd went nuts.
The next guest appearance was from One Republic singing their hit song “Apologize.”

Jordin Sparks returned to the Idol stage tonight to sing her new single.

Carrie Underwood made an appearance on the show tonight to sing her current single “Last Name.”

“I Shot the Sheriff” Critiques:
Randy thought it was very karaoke. It was just okay and nothing special about it.
Paula never saw him perform more to the audience then he did tonight, but she wasn’t crazy about the performance or song.
Simon thought it was utterly atrocious. It’s a song you don’t touch. He thought the singing was bad and it was like a first round audition massacre. He thought the only similarities Jason had with Bob Marley was the hair.

“Mr. Tambourine Man” Critiques:
Randy felt he wasn’t in the zone tonight.
Paula felt it is what it is. It didn’t blow her away, but he blows her away.
Simon thought he should pack his suitcase.

Jason Castro took the stage to sing his second song choice of the night chose the “September Morn.”

Randy told Castro that both of his performances were okay, whatever performances.
Paula felt he took the same liberties with both songs and played it safe.
Simon felt that the Jason Castro he saw tonight was not the same one they put through into the competition.

Ryan announced before Castro began singing that the judges would not comment on performances until after the contestant performed his or her second song.

Jason Castro took the stage first tonight and he chose the Neil Diamond song “Forever in Blue Jeans.”

David Cook and Brooke White take the stage after the commercial break.

Jason Castro was the second person to take the stage tonight. He chose the very popular song “Memory” from the musical, Cats.

Webber said in the video before Jason’s performance that he wouldn’t be surprised if Castro ignored everything he said and did a better performance because of it.

Randy thought it was a bit of a train wreck. He did like Jason singing the song with dreadlocks. He thought it was too much melody for Randy.
Paula said that everyone is use to hearing a female sing the song but she felt he made a wise choice by picking the song he did. She felt it showed his uniqueness.
Simon felt like it was the longest two minutes. He thought it came over like a young guy being forced to sing a song by his mother and dad at a wedding. He felt it was a struggle.

Jason Castro got the pimp spot tonight. His song of choice this week was “I Don’t Wanna Cry” off of the Mariah Carey self-titled album.

Mariah looked forward to seeing his performance and she enjoyed working with him.

Randy didn’t love it. He felt like he was a weird beach luau. Simon cracked up. Paula said she would love to be at that luau. Simon agreed with Paula? Say what? Shocking. He didn’t feel it was the best vocal but it was a cool version. He also added that the guys won the night.

Jason Castro took the stage third tonight with a ukelele in hand. He chose the song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” originally sung by Ms. Judy Garland. It appeared on the Wizard of Oz soundtrack released in 1939. During Season 5 of American Idol, Katharine McPhee also sang this song.

Randy thought Jason was back in the game tonight. Paula thought he picked the perfect song and he did a good job. Simon thought it was fantastic! Um Hm!

Jason Castro is the number four person to sing tonight. His song of choice? “Travelin’ Thru” from the Transamerica soundtrack.

Ryan reveals that Jason received a bunch of postcards from the same girl. Awww!

Jason stands in front of the audience strumming his guitar, singing. It works for him.

Randy thought the performance started a bit rough but by the middle of the song he picked it up. He felt it had a singer/songwriter kind of vibe. Paula thought this was one of his strongest performances. She loved it! Simon told him this is the point where he loses his season pass to Dollywood. He didn’t like it. Shocker!

The second contestant to take the stage tonight was Jason Castro, who is also celebrating his birthday today. He sang the 1987 Sting song, “Fragile.” The performance opened with Jason sitting on a stool playing his guitar. Randy felt that it was a good choice of song and he loved the Spanish vibe that it had. He’s still waiting for that jump out performance though from Jason. Paula told him he’s staying true to who he is. She did agree with Randy that Jason didn’t do anything different. Simon thought he’s had two bad weeks. He told him he needs to take things more seriously. He thought the guitar playing was clumsy. Ryan asked Jason if he is taking it seriously and he said yes. He said he could see where Simon was coming from and could have done better when playing the guitar.
