Paula loved it. She stood up and applauded him.
Simon told him he is one of the nicest, most sincere contestants they’ve had. But, he thought it was the wrong song choice for tonight. He thought he should have sang “Billie Jean” or “Hello.”

Randy thought the song was okay, but what made it work was his face. He hit the notes.
Paula thought this was a great way to take a song that no one knows and make others fall in love with it.
Simon thought it was a bit of a lightweight. He thought the end was okay. He didn’t think it felt like a winning moment. He gave it a 6 1/2 out of 10.

David Archuleta won the coin toss after the show last week and elected to go second. So, up first tonight is the rocker, David Cook.
David’s first song tonight was chosen by Clive Davis and he chose “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2.
Randy thought it was a great way to start off the duel. He loved the note at the end.
Paula loved it. She thought he had arrived.
Simon thought it was phenomenal.

The producers chose the Aerosmith song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” for David Cook to sing as his final song tonight.
Randy loved the song choice, but the performance was okay. Very predictable.
Paula, “See you in the finals. That’s what I predict.”
Simon, “David Cook wins the night.” Oh yes he does. Loved it!

David Cook chose the song “Dare You to Move” from Switchfoot, as his song of choice tonight. Smart choice!
Randy thought it was a great song choice. He didn’t think it was his best. He thought it was a bit pitchy.
Paula wanted more because it felt like he was just getting to the beginning when it ended.
Simon didn’t have much to add. He thought everyone had an okay round.

Simon Cowell chose the song “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack, for David Cook to sing.
Randy feels he could sing anything. He loved the high note at the end. However, he wished that Simon had picked something with more rock in it.
Paula told him he was her second favorite person to hear sing it.
Simon may have sounded a bit biased, but he felt it was one of his best performances. Amen to that!! Round one goes to Cook and Cowell.
