Paula told him she was proud of him. She also told him that he was the only one to pull of picking obscure song choices. Finally, she told him she felt she was already looking at the American Idol. Way to go David!
Simon thought his first performance was okay but his second performance was brilliant. That was smart. Well done!

David Cook performed second tonight and chose the Neil Diamond song “I’m Alive.”

Diamond felt it was a good and gutsy choice of song. He also felt that he would do great.

Syesha Mercado went fifth tonight. She chose the Neil Diamond song “Hello Again.”

Diamond felt she did well on both of her songs.

Up after the break is Jason Castro with his second song of the night.

Syesha Mercado was the last performer of the night with chose “Thank the Lord for the Night.”

Randy loved that she finally realized who she was.
Paula felt the first song was vulnerable and that’s her magic. Her second song showed a different side of herself.
Simon felt she showed that she’s a very good actress/singer. But he felt she may be in trouble tonight.

David Archuleta performed fourth tonight and he sang the Neil Diamond song “Sweet Caroline.”

Diamond felt with a little guidance he would do well.

Paula felt it was the perfect song for him to sing.
Simon felt it was a smart choice of song. It tickled the boxes. It was absolutely the right choice.

Brooke White was the third performer of the night and she chose the Neil Diamond song “I’m a Believer.”

Diamond was pleasantly surprised by Brooke’s take on the song.

Brooke White took the stage after the commercial break to sing her second song of the night, “I Am… I Said.”

Randy felt she was very vulnerable behind the piano. Nice job!
Paula also felt it showed her vulnerability. She told her what she does works.
Simon really hated the first song because it was like a girl’s night out at a karaoke bar. However, he liked her second song because it was the Brooke they liked. It was a million times better then the first song.

Jason Castro took the stage to sing his second song choice of the night chose the “September Morn.”

Randy told Castro that both of his performances were okay, whatever performances.
Paula felt he took the same liberties with both songs and played it safe.
Simon felt that the Jason Castro he saw tonight was not the same one they put through into the competition.

Ryan announced before Castro began singing that the judges would not comment on performances until after the contestant performed his or her second song.
