David Archuleta Sings “Think of Me”

David Archuleta performed fourth tonight. He chose the song “Think of Me” also from The Phantom of the Opera. That makes two tonight. The other was from David Cook.

Webber couldn’t imagine a boy singing the song so he was anxious to hear it. He gave him two pieces of advice: open your eyes and open your eyes.

Randy told David that he is exactly what the show is about. Dude, it was the bomb. This boy is the one to beat.
Paula felt it was perfect. He took a risk and was able to turn it into a pop ballad.
Simon thought it was pleasant and one of his weakest performances. He thought it would get him through to next week but was forgettable.

Jason Castro was the second person to take the stage tonight. He chose the very popular song “Memory” from the musical, Cats.

Webber said in the video before Jason’s performance that he wouldn’t be surprised if Castro ignored everything he said and did a better performance because of it.

Randy thought it was a bit of a train wreck. He did like Jason singing the song with dreadlocks. He thought it was too much melody for Randy.
Paula said that everyone is use to hearing a female sing the song but she felt he made a wise choice by picking the song he did. She felt it showed his uniqueness.
Simon felt like it was the longest two minutes. He thought it came over like a young guy being forced to sing a song by his mother and dad at a wedding. He felt it was a struggle.

Brooke White went third tonight. She chose a song from the film adaptation of Evita: “You Must Love Me“.

Webber didn’t feel Brooke had a clue what she was singing about at first. He was quite pleased how she sang it after she grasped what it was about.

Brooke messed up her lyrics again this week. Tsk tsk. Not good Brooke.

Randy didn’t feel it was great. The one thing he liked was that she listened to Andrew Lloyd Webber. He felt vocally it was tough.
Paula told her that she must never stop and start. However, she did love the fact that Brooke didn’t overact while she sang.
Simon thought the beginning was dramatic. He felt it became uncomfortable. He told her she would be very disappointed when she watches it back. Simon did admit that he would have handled the beginning when she forgot her lyrics the same way that she chose to.

Carly Smithson took the stage fifth tonight. She chose “Superstar” from Jesus Christ Superstar for her performance tonight.

Webber felt that Carly should sing “Jesus Christ Superstar” so she chose to sing that instead of her original song choice from The Phantom of the Opera.

At the end of her performance Paula gave her a standing ovation.
Randy didn’t know if it was her best performance but it was good.
Paula loved that it was so unexpected and she loved what she did during the chorus.
Simon felt it was a bit shouty in the middle but was one of his favorite performances of the night.

When Ryan announced her numbers Carly held up a blue shirt with the words “Simon Likes Me (This Week)” emblazoned on it.

David Cook got the pimp spot of the night which is usually a good thing. Will it be tonight? We will find out.

For tonight’s performance he chose the song “The Music of the Night” from the musical The Phantom of the Opera.

Webber told David to imagine he was singing to the most beautiful girl. He felt that David may make it work.

Randy felt it was an amazing vocal performance. He thought it was molten hot.
Paula felt it proved that he’s well rounded as a performer and that it was fantastic.
Simon didn’t like this side of David but he made the most of it.
Syesha Mercado Sings “One Rock & Roll Too Many”

Tonight Syesha Mercado kicked off the beginning of the show with “One Rock & Roll Too Many” from Starlight Express.

Webber’s advice to Syesha was to have fun with it. He felt that she could possibly bring the house down tonight? Will she?

Randy thought Syesha was in her element and it was her best performance to date.
Paula felt she was very good. She also agreed with Andrew Lloyd Webber by saying she brought down the house from the beginning.
Simon felt the performance was very sexy and that she had one of her strongest performance so far. He felt she was comfortable too.
