  Following up Michael Johns performance Carly Smithson took the stage to sing the 1983 Bonnie Tyler song, “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Randy said it was a very interesting song choice. He didn’t like the note at the end. He didn’t feel it was the right song for her. It was just okay. Paula didn’t know how he could say that. They bicker a bit and then Paula said what she admires about her is that she can take any song that Paula doesn’t like and make her go buy it. She loved what she did at the end. It showed her that Carly is willing to get out there. Again Paula and Randy bicker a bit. Simon said something didn’t quite work. He said she was tense and uptight that during the performance that he didn’t enjoy it as much as he thought he would. He did feel she sang parts of the song well though. He agreed with Randy again that something didn’t quite work. He felt she needed to lighten up a little bit.
